Hello, I’m Ilse

I am a Counselling Psychologist working in the Silver Lakes Golf Estate in Pretoria. Although I have been trained in multiple approaches, I specialize working Systemically from a Narrative therapy and Social Constructionism point of departure. I favour these approaches as they have proved to work with a broad range of problems of varying severity. However, I am not restricted to work within and have experience in many therapeutic approaches therefore I tailor these towards the best possible assistance of my clients.

I am a mother of two school going children. The systemic nature of families creates the awareness of family functioning as parts making up the whole. Therefore I actively work towards focusing on the family as a whole.

Professional registrations

I am registered with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Board of Health Care Funders (BHF). This means that you may claim back from your medical for services received within my private practice

BA (UP), BA Hons (UP), HOD (UP), MA Counselling Psychology (Vista University), PhD Psychology (UP)

Additional Qualifications

16 PF accredited training and train-the-trainer, MCMI III accredited training, MMP II accredited training

Current projects

I am currently working with several schools towards developing Emotional Intelligence within learner groups. My focus is also on combatting bullying; parents and sports and relationships that grow our children.

Training and supervision work experience:

I was a lecturer at the University of Pretoria from 2003-2014. I lectured on the professional Master training programmes as well as on the BPsych and Undergraduate programmes. I trained the Masters in Counselling Psychology students in Multiculturalism, Psychometric Assessment, Supervision and Case management and supervised numerous Masters Dissertations in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. I have acted, and still do, as an external examiner for many universities in South Africa. I have also acted as an article reviewer for leading psychology Journals.

Outside of UP, I have conducted workshops at Vista Psychiatric Clinic and at other smaller institutions such as local clinics and schools.
